ResiStories with the Museum of Vancouver

Banner for the ResiStories event series, a collaboration with the MOV and funded by the UBC StEAR fund.

ResiStories is a collaboration between the Museum of Vancouver and the UBC Vancouver Public Humanities Hub. This series of programming aims to bring scholars of intersectional equity-seeking work and identities together in mutual learning and solidarity with communities in the public space at the city’s oldest (and initially Eurocentric) cultural institution to resist colonial narratives. Each program features ongoing histories and acts of resistance in conversation with the Museum’s exhibitions and collections.

The ResiStories series is one of 41 projects generously funded through the 2023/24 UBC Vancouver “Intersectional Stream” of the UBC Strategic Equity & Anti-Racism Enhancement (StEAR) fund. See the StEAR award announcement here.

Project title: ResiStories: Stories from Resistors
Applicant: Sydney Lines, UBC (she/her) and Alyssa Sy de Jesus, MOV (she/her)
Project description: ResiStories convenes under/misrepresented historically, persistently, systemically marginalized (HPSM) communities to tell their own stories on their own terms in Vancouver’s oldest museum and further engages HPSM UBC students and faculty working in and with HPSM peoples and cultures in public-facing work and service. The project compensates local HPSM community knowledge holders, artists, and activists engaged in reparative work and supports ongoing collaborative work between academic institutions and community organizations.
