Call for Expressions of Interest for the Queer and Trans Salon

The Queer & Trans Salon is a new gathering space dedicated to showcasing emerging research and writing from queer and trans scholars and students at UBC and across Vancouver. Meeting twice each semester, the salon offers an intimate and intellectually vibrant setting for sharing work-in-progress. The format for presentations ranges and can include experimental forms and critical reflections in various media that center queer and trans thought, experience, and creativity.

At a time when queer and trans bodies and knowledges are increasingly surveilled, policed, and punished by authoritarian and fascist regimes around the world, it is more urgent than ever to gather in support, dialogue, resistance, and community. The salon foregrounds work that attends to the intersections of race, class, gender, disability, migration, and other forms of vulnerability, holding space for solidarity across difference. By highlighting emergent ideas, the salon nurtures a collaborative and supportive environment where inquiry, imagination, and collective care can flourish.

If you would like to share your work during one of the salon meetings, reach out to the conveners with an expression of interest. No formal application is required. A quick email signaling your interest to participate suffices to get a conversation going about how the conveners can help create space for your work.

The first salon gathering is October 1 at UBC, location TBD, from 4-6 pm. Please email to let the conveners know you are coming!

Hosted by Dr. Jasbir Puar (jasbir.puar@ubc.ca), Dr. Ervin Malakaj (ervin.malakaj@ubc.ca), and Dr. Elif Sari (elif.sari@ubc.ca), in conjunction with the Queer and Trans Anti-Fascism Research Cluster.

The Queer and Trans Anti-Fascisms Research Cluster is funded by the Public Humanities Hub.
