Podcasting
A highly variable medium, the podcast format can offer creative ways of presenting one’s research through interviews, performances, game shows, and beyond.
This podcasting toolkit was developed to complement the “Podcasting as Peer-Reviewed Scholarship” workshop with Dr. Hannah McGregor as part of our Public Scholarship Series. The full video of that workshop can be found on the Recommended Reading page.
Using Wikipedia
As a form of public scholarship, Wikipedia has the capacity to reach a large and diverse audience outside traditional academic spaces. In the classroom, it introduces students to a collaborative writing process with tangible impacts and public audiences. This toolkit builds on the advice and resources shared by participants in our roundtable on forms of public scholarship through Wikipedia. It introduces methods for using Wikipedia and further points to resources available at UBC and beyond.
Writing Op-Eds
An op-ed is a short informational piece written by a guest writer not officially on staff at a publication. “Op-ed” means “Opposite-the-Editorial Page” or “Opinion Editorial.” This op-eds toolkit was developed to complement the “Writing Op-Eds” workshop with Scott White and Dr. Michelle Stack as part of our Public Scholarship Series. The full video of that workshop can be found on the Op-Ed Resources page.
