#HumaniNights: Celebrating the Engaged Humanities with Arts Amplifier and the Public Humanities Hub

Please join us for a networking reception followed by an evening of public presentations in our inaugural #HumaniNights: Celebrating the Engaged Humanities with Arts Amplifier and the Public Humanities Hub. #HumaniNights is a Nerd Nite style event for the UBC community to present on a special humanities topic that has recently inspired them–be it an inspirational book, research idea, public project, or creative work. UBC humanities faculty, students, staff, and postdocs all welcome.

This will be a hybrid event with online streaming. Please note that only the #HumaniNights presentation portion of the event will be streamed online. We will provide more details and links in the days prior to the event to the email address you use in your registration.

Networking Reception & Mixer | 3:30 PM – 5:00 PM | In-person

A casual reception for UBC humanities folks to gather, reconnect and get to know each other. Hors d’oeuvres will be provided. Please indicate your dietary needs in the registration form.

Food will be catered by Potluck Catering, a social enterprise that employs neighbourhood residents using training and employment as a dignified means of helping people regain their confidence, skills, and economic independence.

#HumaniNights Presentations | 5:00 PM – 6:30 PM | Hybrid

Nerd Nite style talks (5-12 min) presented by UBC Humanities students, postdoctoral fellows, faculty, and staff in one of three streams

  • #HumaniReads: Present on a text you’ve been reading and what it has inspired.
  • #HumaniTalks: Talk about a niche research idea, some Arts Amplifier work, or side project that would interest the greater public.
  • #HumaniStories: Showcase yourself as a storyteller, through art, writing, or other creative formats.

If you would like to present, please submit a talk through our Call for Proposals. The Public Humanities Hub will provide all presenters with a $25 gift card to the UBC Bookstore. Proposals due March 23, 2022.
